2008 Benchmark

2008 Climate Change Benchmark
NextGeneration’s 2008 benchmark focused on the UK’s largest homebuilders response to the risks and opportunities posed by climate change.
The Berkeley Group were named as the top performing company, with Crest Nicholson also performing strongly. Miller Homes and Inspace Partnerships were ranked in 3rd and 4th respectively, with a group of four companies placed below the top tier: Barratt Developments, Countryside Properties, Redrow and Taylor Wimpey. The findings of the benchmark were launched on 29th October by Iain Wright, MP.
Whilst the benchmark indicated that many companies have responded proactively to the risks associated with climate change issues, the variance of results also presented a picture of an industry grappling with the policies and standards being developed by the government, both in terms of product operational impacts.
The report underlined the importance of a joined-up collaborative approach from government and industry in filling the gap between present and future milestones, especially in light of unprecedented economic uncertainty.
